Could you be a fashion designer?

Singer Gladys “Midnight Train to Georgia” Knight thinks so, and is trying her hand at designing lingerie for fashionable plus-size retailer Ashley Stewart.  The collection, cleverly called “Knightwear,” debuted on stage at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem last week, with proceeds benefitting the Boys Choir of Harlem and the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund.

It all started when Ashley Stewart approached Miss Knight to become one of the company’s “Great Women of Style”  — a spokeswoman of sorts for the company.  But Miss Knight had more in mind than just a figurehead role.  She’d been thinking about creating a line of lingerie for the plus size market for some time, and when she was approached by the Ashley Stewart people, it all came together.  The collection consists of 15 to 20 styles in satin or cotton, with pieces priced under $30.

They were snapped up at the Apollo last week and will be available in Ashley Stewart stores nationwide very soon.
