Now that the kids are back in school and the weather’s starting to change, it’s time to update your wardrobe for fall. You don’t need to follow every trend to look current; just try one or two to freshen things up a bit. Use classic pieces to form the backbone of your wardrobe, and go cheap on any trends.
With that said, here are your best bets for Fall, 2016:
Black and White
Black and white is simple and classic and an easily “doable” on even the most hectic of days. Spice it up with different accessories, or just have a little fun. You’ll always look chic.
Beige is a staple for fall, and works well both on its own and mixed with other colors.
While bare shoulders are not appropriate for work, one-shoulder tops are great for both day and evening socializing.
Big, beautiful sleeves are all the rage this season, but be careful when wearing them to work – you don’t want them to become a distraction. Wear them for dates, girls’ night out, and the holidays.
Cropped pants continue to be popular this season. Just keep them knee length if you’re petite so they don’t overwhelm. Average and tall women can go knee or calf length.
Plaids and Checks
Plaids look great and are an easy way to spice up your separates. Just make sure the print is in proportion to your body.
Velvet and cool weather go together. While it’s usually a evening fabric, you can wear it in small doses during the day.
Pinstripes lengthen and elongate and are very chic for business. Wear them if suiting is appropriate for your industry.
A beautiful leather coat will last for seasons and make you look fabulous. If you don’t wear animal products, try faux leather instead.
Military inspired coats are popular this year, in just about every length. Skip ankle length if you’re petite; otherwise enjoy this trend.
So…there you have it, my best picks of the season. Nothing overly trendy or out-of-this world, because those styles are easily remembered and go out of style fast. These won’t. You’ll look great for months – or in some cases – years to come.
